A self priming pump is a centrifugal pump with external casing that floods the inner pump and uses a mixture of air and water to create a primed pumping state. These pumps stayed primed and are ideal to use for water supply where a suction head is required; they can mix water and air to create a pumpable fluid. Self priming pumps are designed to clear air and start pumping without intervention. The self priming pump is able to retain water after the very first prime. This provides increased operating efficiencies where pumps are used intermittently.
Well maintained pumps run more efficiently and consequently can reduce your energy consumption by up to 50% and reduce the chance of an unexpected breakdown.
At Alton Pump Services we provide pump service and maintenance to help your pump maintain optimum performance levels. A typical pump service would include:
- Cleaning and emptying out the pump.
- Removing any blockages.
- Carry out any checks to see if there are any defects in the pumping system to ensure that is in full working order.
We also provide ongoing service contracts to help maintain the efficiency of your pump giving you priority response, parts and labour. Our team of engineers are experienced in both domestic and commercial pump servicing.
In the unfortunate event of a pump breakdown Alton Pump Services can provide emergency pump repair – fast. We stock a wide variety of replacement pump parts and will carry out repairs onsite whenever possible to avoid disruption to your work.
Our dedicated team of pump engineers provides as little disruption as possible and will work to get your pump back up and running again.
Self priming pumps work by drawing air into the pump by creating low pressure through the movement of the impeller. Liquid is then mixed with the air. This process takes place in the external casing – atmospheric pressure causes the water to be pushed up the suction pipe, forcing the air in the suction line into the pump. The air will rise and the water will sink – the air free water then flows back into the impeller chamber to mix with more air flowing into the suction line. When all the air has evacuated a vacuum is created forcing water up the suction line to the impeller – this is when pumping commences. When the pumping beings the water re-circulation will cease. Re circulation of water within the pump stops when pumping begins.
- Suitable to handling solids up to 3 inches
- Fluids can be pumped whilst pump is outside of pit
- Mounted at ground level makes them easier to maintain & repair.
- No mechanical equipment in the wet well negates the requirement for hoists or cranes.
