Blocked Manhole
The extreme wet weather has been causing more issues for the UK this week. The sheer volume of rainwater is highlighting any problem areas within many drainage systems. We were called out to check a blocked manhole at a local domestic property.
Our team of engineers carried out high-pressure water jetting to clear the way for CCTV equipment to determine the cause of the blockage. They found that wet wipes had accumulated in the drain creating a blocked manhole. One of the signs that a drain is blocked is when your toilet, washing machine, shower, bath or sinks start draining slowly. Sometimes water may not drain away at all and can back up into your property or garden. When you have a blockage extreme rain like that we have been experiencing can result in flooding where the volume of water can’t drain away quickly enough.
You might find that an early sign of a blocked manhole in your outside drain is the smell; the odor from stagnant or foul water can warn you of drainage issues beneath the ground before any visible signs. If you become aware of an unpleasant smell get in touch as soon as possible to prevent damage to your property from overflowing drains or manholes.
Our team cleared the blockage of the wipes and gave the drain a flush through with a jet wash to ensure any debris and grit was washed through. This job should always be carried out by a professional.
