The pump station fault
A previous service visit found that the guide rail poles had corroded at the top and come loose. The pump could not be lifted safely using the existing guide arrangement, so a planned repair was required.
The chamber depth meant the work was planned for a two-person confined-space engineering team using man-riding access equipment.
Guide rail and lifting-chain repair
The engineering team refitted both guide rail brackets in the foul-water chamber and secured them in position. New pump lifting chains were then supplied and installed to restore a practical lifting arrangement for future maintenance.
Once the mechanical work was complete, the engineers checked both the foul and storm-water pump chambers. The completed job record states that both chambers were left working in automatic mode.
Recorded outcome
- Guide brackets secured: both loose brackets in the foul-water chamber were refitted and made secure.
- New lifting chains installed: replacement chains were supplied and fitted for pump lifting and maintenance access.
