The requirement
The job was to install a new rising main from a pump station to the public sewer. The team attended site with the plant and labour needed for the work.
Rising main and sewer connection
The engineers installed a new 90 mm MDPE pump main from the pump station to a 450 mm sewer, a run of approximately 50 metres. The sewer is on the other side of a brook, so a cast iron waterway crossing was constructed.
Valve chamber and guide rails
A new valve chamber was built next to the new pump chamber to take the new 90 mm pipe. New non-return and gate valves were installed in it, and the pipework was connected to the new guide rail systems inside the pump chamber.
Commissioning and finish
The system was connected from the pump chamber to the main sewer and commissioned. The site was raked over and left as found.
Recorded outcome
- Rising main: about 50 metres of 90 mm MDPE pipe installed to a 450 mm sewer.
- Waterway crossing: a cast iron crossing was built over the brook.
- Valve chamber: new chamber with non-return and gate valves.
- Commissioned: connected to the guide rail systems and the main sewer, and the site left as found.
