When you need a new sewage pump

  • The old pump has failed and is not worth repairing
  • A new extension, annexe, basement or outbuilding needs pumped drainage
  • The pump is the wrong size and runs too often or cannot keep up
  • A single-pump system needs a second pump for back-up
  • The control panel or alarm is old, unsafe or missing
  • A housing or commercial development needs a new pumped system

How an installation works

  1. Check the duty

We look at the flow, the lift and distance to the discharge point, and what the pump has to handle, before choosing a pump.

  2. Written quote

You get a written quote showing the pump, controls and work included before anything starts.

  3. Install

The pump is fitted with its pipework, non-return and isolation valves, level controls, control panel and high-level alarm as needed.

  4. Commission and hand over

We test the system in automatic, check the alarm, leave the site tidy and send a report with photos.

Single pumps, twin pumps and full pump stations

Many homes only need a single pump in an existing chamber. Where a failure would cause real problems, a twin-pump system with automatic changeover and an alarm gives back-up.

For new developments we also supply, install and commission complete package pump stations. One example is a duty/standby station designed for 5 litres per second at 4.74 metres head, with ultrasonic level control and backup floats.

Questions

Sewage pump installation: common questions

Can you fit a new pump in my existing chamber?

Usually, yes. We check the chamber, pipework and controls first. If they are in good condition, a new pump can often go straight into the existing chamber.

Do I need a control panel and alarm?

Most sewage pump systems should have a high-level alarm so you know before the chamber overflows. Twin-pump systems need a control panel to switch between pumps. We will tell you what your system needs.

Which pump brands do you install?

All the main makes, including Grundfos, Wilo, KSB, Flygt, Xylem, Sulzer, Lowara, Ebara, DAB, Pedrollo, Tsurumi and Zoeller. We are independent and choose the pump that suits the duty.

What information helps you quote?

Photos of the chamber and any existing pump and panel, the make and model from the data plate if there is one, the site postcode and a short description of what the system serves.

Do you install complete pump stations?

Yes. We supply, install and commission package pump stations for homes and developments, and upgrade existing stations.
