The visit
The visit was to carry out borehole works as agreed in a quote, and to check the information that had been supplied about the system.
Measurements recorded
The engineer recorded the following at the borehole.
- Water level: 24 metres without the pump, and 23.4 metres with the pump in.
- Total depth: 27.5 metres. The borehole is 4 inch.
- The pump stops when the water reaches 25.2 metres. The engineer assumed it has a run-dry safety.
- It takes 1 to 2 minutes to empty, and 15 to 20 minutes to fill back to its maximum level.
How the supply is arranged
The borehole pump fills a 2,500 litre above-ground tank in the garden. A DAB pump in the tank then sends the water through a single string filter and an ultraviolet unit to supply the whole house. There is a mains switchover inside the house.
What the customer asked about
The customer would also like the filtration system upgraded, because the current one is more than 15 years old. The old pump and pipework were disposed of. The borehole lid and rim are in good condition and can be used again, and the customer would like the lid bedded back in.
Recorded outcome
- Levels recorded: water level, total depth, pump stop level and refill time.
- Supply recorded: borehole to a 2,500 litre tank, then filter and ultraviolet unit to the house.
- Old equipment removed: the old pump and pipework were disposed of.
- Customer request: an upgrade to the 15-year-old filtration system.
