Basement and cellar pump installation and repair

Basements and cellars often need a pump. It lifts sewage from a basement toilet, shower or kitchen to the drains, or keeps groundwater out. We install, repair and replace both kinds.

Signs a basement pump needs attention

  • The pump alarm is sounding
  • Water is collecting on the basement floor
  • Basement toilets, showers or sinks drain slowly or back up
  • The pump runs all the time or not at all
  • Smells from the pump chamber
  • Only one pump and no alarm protecting the basement

How we work

  1. Check the system

We look at what the pump has to handle, how far it lifts, the chamber, the controls and the alarm.

  2. Explain the options

Repair, replacement, or adding a second pump and an alarm. You get a written quote before any work starts.

  3. Install or repair

Pumps, non-return valves, pipework, controls and alarms fitted to suit the basement.

  4. Test and report

Everything is tested in automatic and you get a report with photos.

Two kinds of basement pump

A sewage pump takes waste water from basement toilets, showers and kitchens and lifts it up to the drains. A sump or drainage pump removes groundwater that collects in a sump. Each needs a pump suited to what it handles.

Because a failure can flood the basement, many systems are better with a high-level alarm and a second pump for back-up. We work on all makes and recommend what suits your basement.

Questions

Basement and cellar pumps: common questions

What kind of pump does a basement need?

If the basement has a toilet, shower or kitchen below the drains, it needs a sewage pump. If groundwater collects, it needs a sump or drainage pump. Some basements need both.

Should a basement pump have an alarm?

Yes, in most cases. A high-level alarm warns you before water rises too far, so you can act before the basement floods.

Is a second pump worth it?

Where flooding would cause real damage, a second pump gives back-up if one fails. We can tell you what suits your basement.

Do you repair existing basement pumps?

Yes. We repair and replace basement and cellar pumps of all makes.
